Plane crash

Halloween, 1959. Julian Reiss and his daughter crashed his single engine Helio Courier in the Adirondacks. Both walked ten miles in the woods to civilization.

Operation Toylift

Esso, Standard Oil, donated a plane during December so Santa, his elves and gnomes could bring toys to orphans. Also on the flight were two reindeer and a guitarist. In 1959, they delivered 15 tons of toys.
